Designing a new quilt pattern always starts with a mess—at least for me!
I pull way too many fabrics because I can never decide what I want to use… but that’s part of the fun, right?

I’m starting this new baby quilt pattern with a design from @UniqueFabricPanels and building around it to create a beginner-friendly quilt that’s simple, sweet, and easy to sew.

Remember when I shared an easy way to color match fabrics?? Here’s a great example! A customer asked for a light yellow or orange fabric to match the backing to their baby quilt. After seeing #11 along the color swatches on the selvage, matching it to another fabric was much easier! Hope this helps ☺️

Those were the days of tiny hands, big messes, and even bigger memories. The kids are in school these days as I sew, but it wasn’t always this way. Photos like these will always hold a special place in my heart. 💛

One of my favorite parts of long-arming is letting the quilt top tell me how it wants to be quilted.
When I saw these star blocks, I knew ruler work was the way to go, with a little free motion in between. Those sharp lines and crisp triangles were just needed some geometric magic. ✨ It’s like each quilt has its own personality, and this one said: “Give me some structure, but make it pretty.” 😄

One of the questions I get the most is: “But what does the back of your embroidery look like?”

Honestly? It’s not perfect. And I’m okay with that.
In a world that’s always striving for polished, picture-perfect moments, the back of my embroidery tells a different story—one of process, learning, and love. A few knots here, a little wandering thread there. It’s a quiet reminder that the beauty is in the making, not just the outcome.

When I hand stitch something like a swaddle for a new baby, I’m not aiming for flawless—I’m aiming for meaningful. Each stitch is filled with intention and care… and maybe a snack break or two with little hands nearby.

So here’s a peek at the back of one of my swaddles. A little messy, a little honest—and completely handmade.

If you’ve ever hesitated to try embroidery because you were afraid it wouldn’t be perfect, I hope this gives you permission to just begin.

You don’t have to hide the back. You just have to start stitching. 💛

Free-motion quilting can feel intimidating, but the meandering design is a great place to start. It’s a free-flowing, organic quilting pattern that adds texture and movement to your quilt without worrying about perfection. This is why it’s one of my favorite quilting designs and one that I recommend most to beginners! Here are my 4 favorite tips for the perfect meandering line:

1. Continuously Wiggle Your Line: The key to a beautiful meandering stitch is to keep the line moving! Avoid sharp angles or sudden stops—just gently wiggle your quilt in smooth curves.

2. Maintain Consistent Spacing: One of the biggest challenges for beginners is keeping even spacing between lines. Aim for a uniform distance between your meandering stitches to create a balanced look.

3. Keep Changing Directions: To achieve an organic, flowing look, make sure you’re changing directions regularly. If your meandering lines start looking too uniform or repetitive, try making larger curves or varying your motion.
