Go BIG or go home!

This is the largest T-shirt quilt size that can be made (84” x 112”).

When there are SO many shirts, I always ask customers to prioritize their favorites so we can make sure those are absolutely included in the quilt. I will also remove any duplicates (after checking with you, of course) and mail back anything that does not make the final quilt if that is your preference.

Figuring out what stays, what moves, and what makes the final layout is always a fun challenge.

Before you panic, pre-cut shirts aren’t an automatic dealbreaker 🚨Danger zone? Not exactly, BUT let’s talk about them.

Planning a T-shirt quilt and already started cutting? Take a breath. Pre-cut blocks can be trickier.

Sizes aren’t always consistent, and sometimes they’re smaller than my templates.

Do I accept them?
Yes...just selectively and with intention. I’ll always ask for a photo first. If needed, I can mount smaller blocks so they fit beautifully within the quilt layout.

A tiny bit of “fine print” for transparency:
Pre-cut shirts don’t lower the cost. They usually need extra prep, which is why there’s a $5 per block fee if adjustments are needed.

No shame if you already started cutting ✂️

There’s girl math…then there’s T-shirt quilt math 🙃

It’s part design, part puzzle.

I measure.
Then I measure again.

Then I carefully cut around each graphic so the parts that matter actually shine.
(And yes… this round I called in some Creative Director reinforcement 👀 Thanks, Paige.)

After that, it all goes on the floor. I move pieces around until the colors feel balanced and nothing feels too heavy in one spot. Sometimes I step back, sometimes I move half of it around again.

But before I sew a single seam, I always send a photo, because once it’s stitched… it’s stitched!

So be honest…how many shirts do you have saved, just waiting to be turned into a quilt ⬇️

Beginner Chain Stitch Tip 🧵

1️⃣ Premark your spacing with a ruler and a water-soluble or heat-erasable pen
(about ⅛”–¼” apart).

2️⃣ Shorten your stitches around curves for smoother circles.

Simple, but it makes such a difference!

Quilted on my @handiquilter longarm and using a @creativegrids ruler designed by @angelafmq helped keep quilting simple here.

I framed each star with the ruler, then filled in the rest with my go-to meander…easy, familiar, and just what this quilt needed.

There’s really no such thing as too many shirts!

This queen size quilt is made from almost 90 shirt sides which comes out to about 65 shirts since many were used front and back and somehow it all fits together into one cozy colorful masterpiece. It still kind of blows my mind every time I lay one out.

From tees you wore once to favorites you could never give up they all get a second life here and yes we make it work no matter how big the pile gets.

So, if you are sitting there thinking, “I definitely have way too many shirts….”

No you do not…You have a future quilt!

Spots do tend to fill up, but it’s really not as stressful as it might sound, I promise. I open a limited number of spots at a time so I can give each quilt the attention it deserves. Once those spots are filled, listings close until the next round opens. That’s it.

Turnaround times are always listed up front, and I share updates along the way so there’s no guessing. If you’re thinking ahead for a quilt later this year, getting on the list early is usually the easiest way.

’Twas the night before Christmas, and this quilt’s story was ready to be shared. 🤍🎄

Started by a great grandmother using pieces of clothing she made for her own children, this quilt is filled with texture and memories. However, she wasn’t able to finish it before she passed.

Generations later, her great granddaughter asked me to complete it as a Christmas surprise for her grandmother. A note in the great grandmother’s own handwriting was stitched on the back and I chose an all-over meander so the original fabrics could shine.

Finishing this quilt felt like not only carrying on a legacy, but most importantly honoring the beautiful hands that started it.

Hockey is intense on the ice…and this quilt’s impact hit just as hard 💙🏒

When I opened the box, I actually laughed. These jerseys were HUGE.

Bold colors, big patches, lace-up collars, even a captain’s snap-on C… and I KNEW I had to keep every piece.

When I learned some of the #jerseys were made in memory of a #teammate who had passed…. the whole project shifted. Those pieces needed care + space.

So, I slowed down and let the layout find its way, again, and again…and again. Then, years of time on the ice came together in one place…every patch, every lace, every memory kept exactly where it belonged.

How many people can say they’ve experienced hockey’s intensity from behind a sewing machine?!

I’m so lucky and appreciative that I am able to.

There is major truth to slow and steady always winning the race…trust me.

#patience is something that grows with you the more you sew, no matter what stage you’re in or what project you’re working on.

Whenever I load a finished quilt top onto my long arm with pins, it’s definitely not the fast part of the process. It takes patience to get everything lined up and perfectly straight….

BUT this step is one of the key reasons quilts come out clean, even, and perfect in the end.

It may not be the #glamorous part, but it’s the part that makes all the difference.

Puzzle quilts are all about mixing the pieces of someone’s story…tees, sweatshirts, polos, jerseys, pockets, and all the little details you don’t want to lose. I cut and arrange everything so it fits together in a way that feels right.

My favorite marking tool hands down…the Mark-Be-Gone pen by #dritz 🩵

I use it to #sketch out my #stitch lines. When I’m done, a little water (with a pinch of baking soda) makes the marks disappear like magic.

Such a small tool, but it makes such a big difference when you’re planning those detailed seams or quilting patterns.
